Blog Beginner

If I can get this blogging thing right I can impress my 2 teenage kids more than I have managed with anything else I have done for the last 5 years! The other benefit of course will be it might get my campaign for the 2010 general election in Hertford & Stortford off to a good start.

Livia Oldland from East Herts People set up a meeting last Saturday generously hosted by Jim and Viv Thornton. There were a number of people there that were already interested in promoting independents in politics (as opposed to party political control). There was a good mix of existing councillors and people new to politics that wanted to get involved.

Angela Emsley was elected as an independent councillor in Hertford Town Council last year and she captured the mood perfectly when she said she would not have described herself as political but wanted to serve her community. And that is exactly why I am running for election. I don't want to just complain about the sleaze and the mess our economy and some of our communities are in. I believe we could do better if MPs co-operated with each other instead of constantly fighting each other along party lines.

The event was also the launch for Jim's book "Independents for East Herts". It really gives a great in sight to local government politics and campaigning for election. Very candid reporting and easy reading.......I just hope no one decides to sue!

I got engrossed in conversation and did not get to mingle as much as I would have liked. I would really appreciate an EMail from any one that was there or anyone else for that matter that wants to know more about my campaign or better still wants to help out.

So will check with the kids whether I have achieved half of my purpose with this blog. The other half will be decided by the people of Hertford & Stortford in the next 3 months.
